December is almost here and since you all know that December month is missing in Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 smart devices, there is an all new update which has arrived for LG Nexus 4 dubbed as Jellybean 4.2.1. This update not just fixes the December bug in the device but also fixes a host of other minor bugs which were earlier reported by the users. With this update, the Android OS marches towards more stability and more battery optimization. Please note that this is the Official firmware release. The update is just 1.1MB and fixes the December bug along with other framework bugs. So, before we proceed, lets head to the detailed pre requisites on how to apply this firmware update and then we will be checking out on what are the instructions with which you can apply with this release.
Pre Requisites:
As a precaution, create a backup of all the data present in your Nexus 4 as the data might just corrupt or get deleted.
Note: Don’t backup with the help of ROM Manager app as it may completely brick the device.

From the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”, enable the USB Debugging. Also, make sure that the minimum battery life is 30% so as to make sure that device doesn’t get turned off in the middle of firmware update.
Since this OTA is not yet available to all the users, just in case if you have rooted your device and is on the custom ROM firmware, you will have to apply the same from the Recovery mode. Just in case if you haven’t rooted the device, with the help of below two steps you will have to root the same which also includes the installation of custom recovery image in LG Nexus 4.Procedure to Update LG Nexus 4 with Jellybean 4.2.1 Firmware:
Download the Jellybean 4.2.1 JOP40D Package from here to your computer. Once downloaded, connect your LG Nexus 4 to the computer with the help of original USB cable and place the zip file in your device’s internal memory.
Now, disconnect the device and download the ROM Manager app from the Google PLAY Store. Open the ROM Manager app and select the option of “reboot into recovery mode” for rebooting the device in the recovery mode.
In recovery mode, select “Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition”. Also, select “advanced” and clear the Dalvik cache too if you are on the custom ROM firmware.
Now, select “install zip from SD Card” to find for all the zip files present in your LG Nexus 4 device, select the Jellybean 4.2.1 JOP40D Package which you have placed in the device for updating the same. Once the file is selected, it will take around 4 -5 minutes for applying the update. As soon as the firmware is updated successfully, you will get to see the message as “install from sd card completed” and then select “go back” and select “reboot system now” for rebooting the device in the normal mode. Please note that it may take longer time than expected for booting the device and to show up the home screen as it’s the first time the device will reboot after applying the firmware.
Note: Just in a rare case if the device doesn’t boot up or show the home screen then remove the battery and reinsert the same to boot the device again in the normal mode.
